Kendrick Lamar's 'DAMN.' Begins At No. 1 With The Largest Opening Week Of 2017

As was expected, Kendrick Lamar’s new album
DAMN. has started at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with a large opening frame, easily beating out the competition. The record kicked off with an impressive 603,000 copies, of which 353,000 were sales. That gives Lamar the largest opening frame of 2017 thus far, ahead of even Drake’s More Life, which managed just over half a million units in its first seven days.
DAMN. is Lamar’s third consecutive No. 1 album in as many years on the all-encompassing tally. He first made it to the top of the ranking in 2015 with his record To Pimp A Butterfly , which was immediately heralded as a triumph in the rap world. Just one year later, Lamar gifted his fans with the compilation
untitled unmastered., which wasn’t so much a proper album as a collection of songs that he had never released that were all, as the title suggests, untitled and unmastered, but that didn't stop his massive fan base from buying the eight-track release when it was made available.
Before making it to the peak of the Billboard 200, Lamar released two proper albums: 2011’s
Section.80, which peaked at No. 113, and good kid, m.A.A.d city , which turned him from a favorite in the hip-hop world to a true superstar, and which hit the runner-up spot on the all-genre ranking.

- DAMN. was fronted by lead single “HUMBLE.,” which came with little warning, as did the record itself. The song debuted at No. 2 , immediately becoming Lamar’s highest-charting hit and his only top 10 as a lead artist. He has previously reached the No. 1 position for a single week as a featured guest on Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood,” which vaulted to the top after the action-packed video was shared.https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2017/04/23/kendrick-lamars-damn-begins-at-no-1-with-the-largest-opening-week-of-2017/#14737c397958
